5.0 out of 5 stars IMPRESSIVE IS TOO MILD OF A WORD TO DESCRIBE THIS WORK. Wonderful for kids, big kids and in particular collectors, December 19, 2010

From my point of view, this new Super Heroes pop-up book has several things going for it. First, I am a big DC Comic fan; have been since a small lad. (I have a very modest but nice collection of "BlackHawk Comics," my favorite, which I have collected over the years). Secondly, I have a lot of little kid in me and delight in pop-up books of any sort. Third, I am fascinated with shiny, colorful and complicated things like clocks, watches, toasters, chess sets and such stuff. I probably have a lot of raccoon in me.

Well folks, if you are like me, then this new offering is bound to delight. It truly is a marvel! I am fascinated with the fact that Matthew Reinhart was able to come up with the engineering dynamics of this thing...I knew he was good, but I did not realize just how good.

When this book is released from its plastic wrapper it expands to just under four inches. (Note here that all measurements I give in this review are approximate). This includes... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ever, October 5, 2010

A bargain at twice the cost, you must buy this book immediately.

Six main pop-ups involving multiple mechanisms lunge outward, forward and upward from the pages. I do believe this is the fattest pop-up book in all the history of pop-up books. These are augmented by 22 additional pop-ups, if I counted them correctly, that fill up the otherwise unused spaces of the main entries. Each minor inset pop-up could easily stand on its own and rate its own separate page. I do love it when those auxiliary pages themselves have auxiliaries that are very easily overlooked on the first pass. Pretty tricky there, Reinhart! This book is truly a tour de force in this fascinating entertaining craft.

I only just now noticed a battery compartment in the back cover with a protective pull tab. I will not tell you what the batteries are for. That would ruin the fun.

I am a bit jealous of the imagination, creativity, and talent expressed here. Even the smaller pop-ups are... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. Just... WOW!, October 14, 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I had seen a video review of this book and was very impressed with the detail and care put into this book. When I got it yesterday in the mail I just couldn't believe how awesome of a piece of work this thing is.

Six main pages, each with additional popups (some with popups within them!). My daughter and I spent about an hour reading through every single panel, covering so many major DC heroes and villains. Of course the DC trilogy are here (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman) as well as their respective foes, additional heroes and villains - just SO much detail. There are a pair of "hidden" heroes I remember quite fondly from my love of the JLA animated series as a child.

The popups are just amazing. Full page spreads that explode out at you, each one of them containing additional popups that are very entertaining in their own right. There's a couple of really neat surprises as well with some very clever implementation of the popup "technology". I am simply... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to have fun...(and learn, too), March 9, 2002

This is a great book, chock-a-block w/ very accessible experiments. One of the best features is the way the experiments are grouped together: a 'theme' (say, Acids, in the Chemistry section) will have a group of experiments of varying degrees of complexity that together add up to a pretty good understanding of the concept. Also, most of the materials are readily at hand- for many of them we really did already have everything in the house. This is esp. gratifying for the kids, who of course want to do the experiment *right now*. I would imagine that home-schooling families would enjoy this, but our school-going kids enjoy doing these experiments after school & on weekends.

p.s., one of the easiest experiments is also a real showstopper, though it takes a couple of days to complete: dissolving the eggshell of an egg, leaving the egg inside intact!

5.0 out of 5 stars Science fun for kids of all ages!, October 21, 2001

Wow, what a great book! My kids love it. It is set up as a series of activities that begin with a question followed by an experiment that answers the question. Questions such as "How do you peel a raw egg?", "Does air take up space?" and "Why can't I taste medicine when I plug my nose?" are all examples of questions posed in the book. The fun is in the experiment that answers the question. I think I counted something like 30 different experiments from 5 main science areas (biology, chemistry, physics, planet earth, and the human body). Following each area is a "science fair project" for the kids to use at the next science fair at school! What a great resource it will be for our family in the years to come. All in all a great book at a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Parents!, November 28, 2001
I wish I had this book 15 years ago as we spent time at home playing "Mad Scientist" with our young children. Our kids are now all teenagers and have enjoyed exploring Robinson's book.
Children LOVE to experiment with their world. "The Everything Kids' Science Experiments Book" offers parents and kids alike a wide array of adventures in science including: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and the Human Body. This book is oriented to kids ages 7-12 but offers information and exploration for budding scientists of all ages. I appreciate this book's easy entrance into the world of science and the three levels of experiments for each area of science: 1)Simple Home Experiments; 2)More Detailed "Kid's Lab Lessons"; 3)Science Fair Projects. The art layout (including multi-color printing, fun-graphics, puzzles, and side-bars), the splashy presentation of information (including fun facts, words to know, dumb-jokes, online science websites and cool quotes) and a complete index... 4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not a bookcase, June 3, 2012
      Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This is a cute book rack, but VERY shallow. It will fit behind a door, which is a Good Thing, but it must be fastened to the wall, wherever you put it. It should not be called a bookcase, as it absolutely is not freestanding. Think of it as a wall rack that installs at floor level. That being said, we liked it once we got over the surprise of how it functions. If you're short on floor space and don't mind putting a couple of screws in the wall, this is your man.
